: In conjunction with a new PBS television special: "CRITICAL CONDITION with Hedrick Smith", South Carolina Educational Television will hold a special symposium at the National Press Club bringing together patients, experts on medical quality, and representatives of health plans and health providers. The symposium is in advance of the airing of the television special on October 18, 2000 (8-11 pm ET : check local listings). PBS stations nationwide devote an entire evening to a special report that asks the crucial question: How good is your healthcare?As reported by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Hedrick Smith, CRITICAL CONDITION goes inside the system for an in-depth look at the quality, affordability and accessibility of health care in America today. Through personal stories of real people from birth to old age and from all walks of life, this compelling, three-hour production examines how our health care system works, what people must do to guarantee the right care for their families, and why many Americans feel their health care system needs radical reform.
