The first international conference on Disability Studies took place October 17-18, 2000 at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. Sponsored by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), Department of Education, the conference is a milestone event designed to promote Disability Studies as a distinctive academic discipline. Panel discussions among the foremost minds in the field will focus on a conceptual framework for Disability Studies, implementation of Disability Studies within post-secondary education, introducing curricula in developing countries and in the information age, and its future direction and expansion.
