About Health Coverage 2000: "Health Coverage 2000: Meeting the Challenge of the Uninsured," a conference sponsored by Families USA, the Health Insurance Association of America, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, will bring together many organizations with one common goal -- to make access to affordable health insurance a top national priority. Families USA and the Health Insurance Association of America, the conference's lead co-sponsors, are longtime rivals in the national health care debate. The six other co-sponsoring organizations are the American Hospital Association, American Medical Association, American Nurses Association, Catholic Health Association of the United States, Service Employees International Union, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Each of the eight sponsoring organizations will present its own detailed proposal on how to tackle the problem of the uninsured. As part of its mission to improve health and health care for all Americans, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation welcomes the opportunity to support what promises to be an important discussion of a crucial issue facing the nation. The Foundation will not present or endorse any other proposal. The conference is being organized with the cooperation of several news organizations -- American Hotline, American Healthline, and Freedom Channel.com. As news organizations, they will not endorse any of the proposals but will guarantee an objective and rigorous discussion. Susan Dentzer, Health Unit Correspondent for "The News Hour with Jim Lehrer" (PBS) will moderate the panels. Ms. Dentzer is one of the nation's top health policy reporters and is highly regarded for her unique ability to examine complex health policy issues in a concise and clear manner. |
