Although second language acquisition (SLA) research has given
us some important insights into language learning, the effect
of output practice on SLA has been ignored. This is presumably
because no one wants to risk a return to the meaningless, rote
drills. However, practice of a certain kind is indispensable to
second language learning. In this live, video Webcast, Diane will
discuss the concept of "grammaring" - the design and implementation
of meaningful practice that is directed at students' specific
learning challenges. Participants will have an opportunity to
experience first-hand "grammaring" activities and will be able
to ask questions.
Diane Larsen-Freeman is Professor of Applied Linguistics
and Interim Co-Dean at the School for International Training in
