Craig Winters
Executive Director,
The Campaign to Label Genetically Engineered Foods
Craig Winters is the current
Executive Director of The Campaign to Label Genetically Engineered Foods, a
political advocacy non-profit organization whose mission is to mobilize
grassroots lobbying in the United States to get labeling on genetically
engineered foods. Mr. Winters has been
instrumental in helping draft several pieces of legislation, introduced in the
House of Representatives in May, that would require labeling of genetically
modified foods.
His organization is part of
a coalition, along with Greenpeace and Genetically Engineered Food Alert, that
has been organizing protests and boycotts of food companies and supermarkets
that carry genetically modified foods.
Winters was also the
founding president of Citizens For Health, another advocacy group, and has
served on the boards of directors of the National Nutritional Foods Association
- Northwest Region, the Provender Alliance, and was a founding member of EarthSave
Seattle. He has served as a spokesperson for Consumers United For Food Safety,
the National Coalition to Stop Food Irradiation, and Physicians for Social
Responsibility.
Winters has been studying
nutrition for 24 years and employed in the natural products industry for 22
years. He is the owner and director of Full Spectrum Health, a consulting firm
that provides marketing, management, sales, computer, cash register, Internet,
and regulatory affairs services to the natural products industry. Winters has been active in many aspects of
the natural products industry, including sales representative for Country Life
Vitamins, sales manager for Sun Chlorella, and vice-president of marketing for
The Herbalist.
Winters was also an
instructor at Bastyr University from 1996 to 1999 where he taught nutrition
students a course called “Nutrition in the Natural Products Industry.”
